Backer's capability covers the intellectual and coordination work of defence manufacturing — design, project management, manufacturing coordination, and quality delivery. Production capacity is accessible through a network of qualified Canadian manufacturers.

Production from one to one hundred thousand.

Backer's partner network provides access to a 55,000 sq. ft. integrated manufacturing footprint, supporting rapid prototyping, first-article production, and mid-rate runs up to 100,000 units. Equipment specifics are introduced under appropriate confidentiality on a contract-by-contract basis.

Production-rate stamping

Brackets, gussets, mounting plates, hinges, washers, and components to controlled drawings. Mid-rate production runs in the 100 – 100,000 unit range.

CNC routing & shearing

3-axis CNC · large format · CNC shear

Sheet stock routing for ACM, composite, plastic, and aluminum panels. High-precision sheet metal shearing for fabricated components.

Laser engraving & cutting

40W laser system

Lamacoid engraving, asset tags, stencil cutting, nameplate production. Suitable for identification and small-component finishing work.

Structural fabrication

Structural steel preparation for fabricated assemblies, brackets, skids, frames, and load-bearing structures. CWB W47.1 welding available through partners.

Industrial paint booths

40×18×18 ft · 10×20×7 ft

Industrial coatings for large structural assemblies and small-component batch finishing. CARC paint application is planned for a future qualification milestone.

Design & documentation

Industry-standard CAD, BIM, and parametric modelling — used end-to-end through concept development, engineering, fabrication file generation, and as-built documentation.

02 / Honest scope

What Backer brings, and what's available through partners.

Backer publishes its qualification posture honestly. What Backer brings at the firm level is named separately from what is available through the partner network. Partner qualifications apply to the portion of work each partner performs.

Backer · at the firm level

  • Canadian Content Value (CCV). 100% CCV on all coordinated output. Eligible for ITB Policy multipliers and Build-Partner-Buy preference.
  • Controlled Goods Program (CGP). In application at the firm level. Required to handle most controlled technical data.
  • Design and project management discipline. PMP, ICD.D, and CPA-track principals. Audit-grade documentation across every commitment.
  • Canadian principals with regional defence familiarity. CLAWR orientation and CFSC completed personally by principals.

Available through Backer's partner network

  • CWB W47.1 welding. Available now through partners holding the certification. Backer scopes welding work to qualified partners.
  • CSA Electrical. Available now through partners. Supports electrical-adjacent identification, labelling, and panel work.
  • Production-rate stamping. 110-ton mechanical press through Backer's principal manufacturing partner.
  • Industrial paint and finishing. Two booths through the principal partner; CARC application planned as a future qualification.

Outside our scope

  • Munitions, propellants, and explosives. Restricted to Munitions Supply Program designated facilities.
  • Pressure vessels and ASME-stamped fabrication. Different quality system, different certification path.
  • Aerospace structural components. AS9100 quality system and Transport Canada certification required.
  • Optics, electronics, communications, crypto. Different industrial capability entirely.
